It wouldn't be long until the other students arrived and started moving into their respective dormitories at the Xavier Academy for the Gifted. Elizabeth was excited to see who may be joining the academy. She hadn't met many mutants before. They would be like her.
It was for that very reason that she had asked her father for permission to throw a party for them on the first day of school. Lizzy was just now leaving the grocery store. She carried 8 grocery bags now. Inside of them, she had all kind of party goodies: chips, candy, sodas, and much more.
As for now, she was walking on her way home. It was about 8pm, so it wasn't very crowded downtown. There were a lot of hobos scattered around, though Elizabeth did her best to keep a distance from them.

Charlotte sat crouched in the shadows of a dark alley, behind a trash can. The small, dirty child peered past the trash can at the near empty streets with hungry blue eyes. She was looking for someone's pockets to pick. It hadn't been long since she had arrived back in New York from France. She had been very lucky to have not been caught as a stowaway in that ship. Having managed to survive on as little food as possible before arriving back in New York, Charlotte was starved. Not knowing any other way to survive in the streets of New York, she resorted to stealing.
Charlotte didn't like begging. It made her feel so pathetic and ridiculous and it was very embarrassing. Logic did tell her that people would take more pity on a child than they would on middle-aged people, which did make up much of the hobo populace, but the other pitiful feelings got the best of her. Also, she was extremely paranoid. She knew certain people would be looking for her. Having lost her memory when the chip which controlled her broke, she didn't exactly know who these people were, but one thing she did know was that they were a dangerous bunch, and it was best to stay out of sight as much as possible.
A strange sight caught her eye which forced her away from her thoughts. It was a girl, blonde and pretty, walking home alone, with arms full of groceries. Cha-ching! Now, why in the world would a girl think it safe to walk alone in the streets of New York so late at night? She sure was confident... There were so many dangerous people out there, it just seemed much too dangerous, especially at night. Though with her powers, she can fend off dangerous people just fine. Those bags were filled with food.... Her stomach grumbled impatiently, urging her to move.
Charlotte's heart thudded hard and fast in her chest as she silently stepped out of the dark alley. She didn't like stealing, really, she didn't, but what other choice did she have? Besides, by the looks of the girl, she could probably buy herself more groceries anyway. Charlotte couldn't remember how she had learned such amazing tricks as walking so quietly, and lurking in the shadows at just the right moments. Maybe one day she'd remember. But for now, the food was all that mattered. She kept her eye on the target as she got closer and closer.... Suddenly, Charlotte broke into a swift sprint, and grabbed at the hand full of grocery bags. As soon as she knew she had a firm grip, she made a run for it.

Elizabeth hadn't seen it coming. Two of her bags were grabbed and the rest were knocked down to the ground along with her. She landed hard on her bottom. Her flesh hit the pavement, but luckily there were no sever injuries. However, she quickly turned her head to see the girl who had knocked her over running away with some of her groceries.
Annoying as it was, Elizabeth would have to suck it up and go to get more groceries. She knew better than to use her powers out in the open like this. Mutants weren't allowed to fight in public. They could get into a lot of trouble. But as she looked, her anger was growing more and more by the moment. It angered her that someone would push her down like this and try to steal all of her stuff. She just couldn't let them get away.
Without screaming or uttering so much as a word, Elizabeth quickly spat her tongue out of her mouth. It would shoot through the air and coil itself around her assailants ankle and hopefully knock them over and onto the ground hard. After this, she'd pull the girl toward her quickly by retracting her tongue.

Charlotte thought she was getting away. She even let a little feeling of victory take over her heart and the negative thoughts about how bad she felt about stealing from the girl. She was happy because at least she would finally get something decent to eat instead of garbage.
And then that feeling was suddenly gone as she felt something wet, slimy and very sticky wrap tightly around her ankle. It pulled her leg back which caused her to fall forward, the groceries flying out of her arms and scrambling against the pavement.
"Agh!"
Charlotte hit the dirt hard and was scraped up a little bit, but it wasn't as if she wasn't already scraped and dirty. She was about to get up again to reach for her baseball cap which had fallen from her head when she felt like she was being dragged, and when she turned around on her back to look back at the girl, it turned out she was indeed being dragged! But that wasn't what was freaking her out. What freaked her out was the fact that this girl's TONGUE was dragging Charlotte back towards her. What the hell? Was this girl a mutant, too? Charlotte's eyes widened in red alert and her paranoia kicked in strong. Her heart beat accelerated and sounded like the wings of a hummingbird in her ears. Was this some sort of trick? Did this girl work for the government? Was this all set up so that Charlotte did steal from her and was taken away? No! That wouldn't happen!
"Laissez-moi partir!"
Charlotte raised her right leg and kicked the air, but in reality, what she was doing was generating electricity through her skin. The electricity would surely have a very painful effect on the poor girl. The electricity would lead through her sticky and wet tongue back to her body and would electrocute her slightly. She rolled over on all fours and kicked off of the ground again, but she wouldn't forget the groceries. She hadn't placed herself in this kind of trouble to forget the real goal here. She had spoken French because, well, she had just gotten back from France, it was understandable that her mind would still be wired in French, even though she spoke perfect English. As if the lizard girl knew that.

After having reeled the girl in, Elizabeth soon felt a strong jolt of electricity passing through her entire body. This forced her to quickly loosen her grip on Nightlocke and retract her tongue all the way back into her mouth. She could still move her tongue pretty easily, but the rest of her body was still in shock, leaving her almost crippled.
"Gah!" She began to keel over onto her side. She began to assume a fetal position as she tried to recompose herself. She felt almost as though she had been tazed.

Charlotte went over to pick up her baseball cap. Her hair was an absolute mess without it, and she didn't really have a brush or anything. She placed the cap firmly on her head and went over to the products scattered on the ground. She crouched on the ground as she picked up some bags of chips and a soda when she froze and looked at the girl who's squirming she had seen from the corner of her eye. It was as if her paranoia melted away watching the girl. Charlotte dropped the junk food from her hands and went over to her. Her concern was written all over her face.
"Je suis désolé... êtes vous bien? Je ai pas voulu pour nuire vous....."
Charlotte slowly came to a stop as she finally realized she had been speaking in French the entire time. She blushed in her discomfort of that realization and cleared her throat.
"What I said was.... I'm sorry... are you okay? I did not wish to harm you... I was just..."
She didn't really know what else to say. She had in fact harmed the girl and more specifically, stolen from her. This girl probably had every right to smack her in the face. Then what the heck was she doing wasting her time apologizing? She should be running. She could have been in some dark alley far away by now, filling up her long time empty stomach. She didn't need to be a good Samaritan after what she had done. But she was there now, and the moment became so awkward, she didn't even know what to do. It felt too weird to just walk away now.

Of course, getting snacks and whatnot was Lizzy's little job yet Max wasn't the type of individual who would let his beloved venture out into the unknown without some form of safety net. Either way, he'd shadow her to the store. Hell, it didn't take much to leave school with his ability to mess with the security system and all. No one would notice he was missing as long as they'd hurry up.
Being as he wasn't too far away, he caught wind of the situation at hand, mainly because of the loud noises being made nearby. And so, he'd be at the end of the alley, a rather devilish smirk upon his face.
"And what do we have here?" He'd begin, looking at the would be thief with a glance of discontent. Being hungry was one thing, being a petty thief was another. Not to mention it seemed she attacked the person he loved most in the world, bad move.
"I suggest you put the bags down and leave. Or else, I can guarantee you that every police squad car within the nearest mile will descend upon this alley faster than you squat to take a piss out of fear." His words were quick, sharp and were not mere threats. All he had to do was reach his mind out to the nearest computer and then from there, he could easily find a way to direct their attention to their position. It was easy as abc.

It was taking a while for Elizabeth to get her energy back after the cruel hit which she had taken. She was physically exhausted after that one shock of electricity. it had really had an effect on her, despite her incredible stamina. In any case, she rolled onto her stomach and began trying to push off, though she was moving rather weakly.
Slowly but surely, she came to standing up on one knee. She looked up at the girl. She still wasn't even sure what had happened. It felt like she had gotten tazed, but she didn't see a taser. It was stranger. Nonetheless, Elizabeth still couldn't pinpoint what had happened. Though soon she looked back only to see that her brother was coming to her assistance.

Charlotte backed away from the fallen girl with a troubled look on her face when she saw the boy emerge out of no where. How long had he been there? He looked so familiar. It only took her a second to realize this boy looked exactly like the fallen girl. They must be related, she thought. She felt like a cornered mouse- angry and confused; lost and desperate.
Maybe she should have just asked the girl for some food or money. Maybe she should have resorted to begging instead of stealing and gotten over her ego and pride. What did that even matter when you were starving? People sympathize for beggars, but no one could ever sympathize for a petty thief. Charlotte looked down at the food lying scattered on the pavement with a deep hunger they couldn't possibly understand.
"Que connaîtriez-vous ceci...?"
Charlotte's vision became cloudy as the moisture filled her eyes, yet her face curled up in frustration as the boy threatened her. Adrenaline pumped through her veins, nulling the effects of her malnourished state. What should she do? Should she tell this guy off, or should she get the hell out of there and run? She didn't really wanna get caught by the police. If the situation called for it, she would have to fight back, and she would. There was no way in hell she was going back to where she came from. Although she couldn't remember much about it she knew deep in her soul that her experience was definitely not a good one. So she figured her safest bet would be to take the boy's advice and leave. Yet, her emotions continued to boil within. Charlotte clenched her fists. Her anger caused little blue electricity to crawl on her skin. A blue flame appeared over her left eye.
"Comment probablement pourriez vous comprendre, Abruti!? Gosse corrompu!"
This outburst caused her powers to activate, and suddenly, a large force field sped their way, and since she was somewhat close to the two, it might actually send them flying. She didn't bother to stick around for the results, what with being emotionally distraught. She turned around, picked up a few backs of chips and a soda, and ran off the opposite direction, tears streaming down her face. Hopefully neither of them would follow.

Eh? What was this girl babbling about? Granted he had the ability to absorb information like a sponge, he never really bothered himself with learning mastering any other languages besides Japanese, Chinese and Latin. Europran languages weren't interesting to him for the most part, but know he wished he could have taken the five minutes to learn it. Oh well, that was hardly important at this point.
Though, the girl's reaction to the situation was strange, too strange. He'd prepare for an exit strategy in case things got extra dangerous. Directly before the creation of the forcefield, he'd maneuver a previously hijacked helicopter to their position. Once in place, it could lower a rope for them to escape upon. It was a civilian chopper, but useful all the same.
He could almost see the heat rising around her body, attributed to the electricity. It was...strange. Yet, once that forcefield was created he knew this wasn't good. With a quick impulse, he grabbed hold of the falling rope and had the chopper move forward and upward at the same time. Not only to help Max avoid the rolling death ball of energy, but to swing over in Lizzy's direction to grab her hand as he reached out to her. All in all, if she grabbed hold, then they could escape over the forcefield.
"Grab my hand!" There was only one chance to get this right.

Elizabeth wasn't even sure what was going on with this woman. She seemed completely crazy beyond belief. Elizabeth new a bit of french, but not enough to completely understand every word that she was saying. She only understood some fragments here and there. In any case, her attention was soon taken by a chopper up ahead. She quickly looked up, and then turned to her brother. It was him. She already knew, and just in the knick of time.
He lowered the ladder, after which he asked for her hand. She quickly spat out her tongue and wrapped out around his wrist. Using her tongues might, she'd pull herself in and onto the ladder as well. After which, she released her brother and retracted her tongue back into her mouth.
"She must be a mutant!" Elizabeth hypothesized.

Charlotte ran away from the scene fast, cutting through dark alleys here and there as she ran through the mostly deserted streets. She bumped into somebody accidentally, but she managed to keep her balance and not drop a thing, and shouted an apology as she continued on her way, wherever that way was.
She didn't know how long she had been running for but suddenly found herself in a really bad neighborhood. She stopped her sprint and walked, breathing heavily as she tried to catch her breath. Every other street light was broken and the houses looked small and like it was falling apart, though it disturbed her to think that they might not be deserted. Who would ever want to live in a place like this? Far away she could hear a dog barking and.... a helicopter?
Charlotte paused to wipe away the tears from her eyes. She realized that she really had nowhere to go. She must have lost those two blonde kids back there. Charlotte reached a corner, and feeling more exhausted than ever, decided to sit down on the curb. Her hands shook uncontrollably as she put down most of the items she carried but took hold of a bag of chips, tore open the bag, and started stuffing her face. The taste of the chips in her mouth made her eyes water again. She had never eaten chips before. They were very good.

The blond kept scanning the area for their target as they flew above the buildings. There was no pilot in the helicopter, they didn't need one considering his abilities. Besides, flying a helicopter manually would be child's play for him anyway. "Of course she's a mutant." Max would say with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. She had mentioned the obvious, thouhh what they didn't know was the nature of her abilities.
They'd just have to deduce what they were once they tracked her down. Which didn't take long considering they had bird's eye view of everything. With his mind, he'd project a thought or two at one of the vehicles down below. One of the beautiful things about cars these days are their computer chips embedded deep inside, ready to be manipulated by him.
With that said, a chevy truck down the street from the girl would turn on before shifting into drive and attempting to run her down from behind. "teach her a lesson... He mumbled as he stayed focused on controlling both vehicles.

Elizabeth was still in the process of deciding whether or not she should climb all the way up the ladder and into the helicopter. She realized that if anything happened to Max, the helicopter would go down, and that wouldn't be good for Elizabeth. She certainly couldn't learn how to drive the helicopter any time soon.
In any case, she watched down below as her brother began his attack, paying no heed to his sarcastic comment. Of course he'd realize something like that so quickly. He was like a freaking computer or something. His processing skills were far beyond that of an ordinary human.
"Be careful, Max! Don't kill her!" Elizabeth would say. So many cars going after her wouldn't possibly be a good thing.

The helicopter sounded closer and closer, but Charlotte was too busy eating, enthralled by the taste of the chips. She finally began to relax a little bit. Then she felt the parched sensation of her throat and deciding to quench that thirst, she grabbed the soda. Opening the lid, she was surprised to hear the hissing sound of the air being released from it. She stared at it in awe for a moment before fully opening it and taking a sip. The taste was unlike anything she'd ever had to drink before, and she enjoyed the kick and the sharp feeling on her tongue. Placing the lid on her lips again she lifted it upside down, tilting her head back as she did so, and commenced to chug it down. She gripped the drink with both of her hands, as if fearing it might actually go somewhere if she held it any other way. She closed her eyes in pleasure.
The sound of a speeding car snapped her out of her soda trance, the roaring engine reaching her ears as if it were far too close for comfort. She stopped drinking and looked around frantically for the source at the intersection she was at. She looked directly ahead of her; nothing. Left and right? Still nothing. But then she noticed her shadow dead ahead of her as the headlights behind her beamed at her back. She turned her head back and saw a truck speeding her way, only a few small yards away now. She was still sitting on the curb. It would take too much time to get up and dodge. Instinctively, she dropped the soda can and placed her hands protectively over her head as she curled up defensively, shutting her eyes hard. This would do nothing of course, at least, not the motion, but the feeling inside, the fear that was very much alive in her chest, would activate the Force Field once again. Right on time, too, because at that moment, merely a tiny foot away from her, the truck collided against the force field, a head on collision. Metal churned and twisted and flew everywhere. What happened next would be an even bigger attention seeker. The magnetic field of the electrical force field caused a negative effect on the engine and... the engine blew up, causing a massive explosion, the flames rising and reaching high into the night sky. The noise sounded as if it echoed all throughout the seemingly empty neighborhood... and much farther away, as well.
After a few moments of silence, except for a terribly annoying sound of the beating wings of a helicopter nearby, Charlotte slowly dared to open one eye to peek at the truck behind her. Flaming debris and chunks of metal lay all around her, and she was seemingly unscratched, except for the pitiful dirty and tattered clothed she wore and her gaunt appearance. Charlotte released the breath she was holding and gasped for breath as she tried to control the rising feeling of hyperventilation in her lungs and chest. There was tiny circle of that part of the pavement where she sat where it went unscratched. Shakily, she rose from the curb and looked around her with wide, frightened eyes.
What the hell was that? Was there a person driving that truck? Is the person dead now? Obviously nobody could possibly survive such a thing. But who would be driving so recklessly in the middle of the night? Maybe it was a drunk. It was the only logical conclusion. She didn't dare try to look in the driver's seat to see the remains of the unlucky person. A strong guilt gripped at Charlotte's heart once more. This was her fault, again. She had caused an innocent death.
This night just keeps getting better and better.....
From the corner of her eye, she saw many colored people gathering; residents from this horrible neighborhood? Taking her cue, she made a run for it towards one of the more empty looking roads of the intersection.
