NIGHTSCREAM
Real Name: Alexander “Alex” Nathaniel Harrison
Alias: Nightscream
Birthday: 10/26
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Height: 5’7”
Blood Type: A-
Affiliation: X-Men
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Hometown: New York
Nationality: United States of America
Power Category: Therianthrope shifting
Mutant Level: to be filled by staff
Powers and Abilities:
- Chiropteran Shapeshifting: Alex has the ability to transform into a bat-human hybrid where his body takes on certain features of a bat (e.g.: wings, bat ears, appendage features, eyes and the like) which allows him to do a great many things. Being young, he can't completely control the changes and sometimes has signs of being a mutant (e.g. elongated canines, red skin marks, screechy voice). A subconscious idea in his mind makes him incapable of powering down after the sun goes down.
- Bat Wings:While transformed, Alex acquires a set of bat wings that allows him to take to the skies at extraordinary speeds up to sixty miles per hour ascending and a hundred miles per hours when diving. The wings are very durable as they can withstand winds up to forty miles per hour and they allow him to pick someone up or knock someone off his or her feet that weighs about the same amount as he does with little to no hindrance. Anything greater will result in his body becoming overwhelmed and leading to him reverting to his normal self.
The design of these wings is such that they are basically and extension off the side of his arms that start around the at his wrist and run back up the arm. They are collapsible so he can still backhand someone who ticks him off.- Sonic Scream:He has the ability to generate vocal sounds of a higher amplitude than a normal person. By vary the intensity, he can inflict severe damage to a person’s ears, cause disorientation, cause people to lose consciousness, shatter the structure of certain objects like glass or walls and even death. The use of this power leaves his vocal chords very sore when he reverts back to his normal self, so extended use is not advised for someone like him.
This is the only power that he has when he is outside of bat form, and there is a high level of difficulty for him to control it. When he gets upset and starts yelling, his vocal chords start generating sound waves at a dangerous level.- Echolocation: The ability listed above allows for Alex to have a radar/sonar. This means that he can determine the location of objects in the environment by use of reflected sound waves that he and other objects produce, which is good as his eyes were changed so that he can only see using it. He needs to constantly produce the sound waves with his vocal chords in order to get around while changed. The world appears in black and white for him when he is changed.
Appearance:
- Short and Spiky Brown Hair
- Black eyes
- Slightly tanned skin (human), Red pigmented skin when transformed
- Red pigment mutation on his cheeks in the shape of bat fangs
- His canines are sharper and longer than normal people.
- Build: While Alex is not a real fighter, he does exercise regularly so that his body has muscle, but it is not to the degree of world class fighters.
- Facial Expressions: Devious smiles, seriously annoyed, and peaceful isolation
- Weight: 155 lbs. normally. 185 lbs when transformed
- Height: five feet and seven inches tall while human. Around Six feet when transformed.
- Clothing: Alex prefers cheap clothing as his change makes him much larger than normal therefore his clothing is toast. These clothes consist of sleeveless shirts, cargo shorts, sandals and a headband that his younger brother gave him before he left.
Personality:.
- Quiet:Alex is a very quiet person given the nature of his powers. He usually refrains from speaking and tends to walk around as silently as possible. He doesn't like his presence to be known, which might have something to do with the fact that bats are not loud unless they have been disturbed.
- Sensitive/Temper: Like most people who have some problems with their powers, Alex does not like to be teased about his mutation. When someone does, he gets very angry and lashes out using his sonic voice to hurt them. He feel terrible about it later, but during the actual incident he feels completely justified in harming the person in such a way.
- Fearful: Alex is constantly afraid that he is going to slip up with his powers, so he doesn't give his all when trying to practice with them. He thinks that if he holds back then no one will get hurt, which will eventually lead to him not being able to help someone because of his own fear.
There is also an internal fear that his powers will shut off on him at a critical moment, and it will cost someone his or her life. He has nightmares about it when he does sleep, which is usually during the early hours of the day or in between classes.- Confident: When he is transformed, Alex feels that he has more freedom than when he is normal. It is an increase in confidence in controlling his abilities that allows him not to be afraid of going all out with his sonic scream. It is almost like he is a different person, but really he doesn't have the barrier that makes him worried about messing up.
History:Being born to Daniel and Maddy Harrison was not the best ways of starting out a life for young Alex. His father was an artist who lacked the skill necessary to make it in that particular world, which left his mother to paying all the bills with her paycheck from being a judge’s clerk. It seemed that Alex’s birth had caused them to realize that they were not going to be able to live a carefree lifestyle, but his father didn’t want to get a job that he was going to hate. They constantly argued about things like the bills and what they were going to eat at night, and the two of them pretty much saw Alex as something that was a financial burden.
There was a great strain on their relationship, and Alex thought that they were going to get a divorce, but the day before his seventh birthday his mother announced that he was going to have a little brother. This news seemed to make his parents reevaluate the decisions that they had made, and Alex’s dad got a job as a painter. Nine months went by rather quickly, and soon baby Alan was brought home to a peaceful family. This happy existence was not meant to last because his father reverted back to his former ways of wasting his time with crappy art, which caused the screaming matches.
This went on for another five years, and finally his father disappeared from the house without a trace. It was devastating for young Alan, but Alex had always known that the day was coming when his father wouldn’t be around to help with all the problems. His mother had to work extra hours in order to keep up with the bills, which left Alex in charge of keeping an eye on young Alan. This was a simple task as his younger brother was easy to distract with cartoons like Naruto.
A year went by, and Alex's family seemed to be able to hold itself together rather peacefully with Alex managing the house and his mom taking care of all the financial stuff. Unfortunately, Alex knew that the good times were going to come to an end because they always did. During dinner one night, Alex was carrying in a dish full of food when his body began to convulse causing him to drop it. His little brother started screaming when Alex's body began to rapidly change, and his mother tried to keep him from hitting anything but she was knocked aside by his newly acquired wings.
The process took a few minutes to happen, but the after effects made his brother scream the word 'Man-Bat'. Alex ran to a mirror to look at himself, and he had to agree with his younger brother's assessment that he looked like the Man-Bat villain from The Batman show. He ran to his room and hid under his covers, and by morning he looked completely normal. Alex thought that it had all been a dream, but the damage in the kitchen told the real story.
Fearing that there was something wrong with him, Alex quickly cleaned up the mess, checked on his mom and made Alan promise not to say anything to anyone. His mother awoke thinking that it had all been a bad dream, and Alex was content with letting her believe that.
Alex found out later that evening that it happened again as soon as the sun went down. He vowed never to go outside after dark in order to keep people from being freaked out by him, but eventually he grew curious about whether or not the wings he had actually worked. One day, he went to the Statue of Liberty and hid out in the torch until it got dark, and like clockwork his transformation happened. He climbed up on the railing and jumped off while flapping his wings like a crazy person, but he soon found himself rising in the air. It was at this point that he noticed that he couldn't actually see anything with his bat-like eyes, which caused him to start screaming like a child. With every sound that he made, Alex realized that he was able to see things. Knowing that he could fly gave him the confidence to glide home and land outside of his bedroom window. Every night after that, Alex would go flying for a few hours to relieve himself of the stresses of life.
A year and a half later, Alex was escorting his brother to a birthday party at some apartment complex. He was told to stay there until his brother was ready to leave, so he spent most of his time out on the balcony looking down on the people of the world. A simple scream caught his attention as a little boy fell over the railing, and it took him a second to realize it was Alan. Without knowing how, Alex transformed into his more monstrous self and jumped over the the rail after his brother. He grabbed his brother with a few feet to spare before hitting the ground, and then the two of them headed home.
After explaining everything to their mother, Alex realized that things were definitely going to be different. His mother and him argued about his leaving for months before another power made itself known to him. During one of these screaming matches, Alex turned away from his mother to face the windows of their apartment. His mother grabbed a hold of him by the shoulders, and Alex yelled at her to leave him alone. His voice became extremely high pitched and caused the windows to shatter almost instantaneously. About two seconds later, some guy was knocking on the door with an envelope addressed to Alex.
