Powers and Abilities:
- Telekinesis
Michael's power is the control and manipulation of kinetic energy in and around him. This allows him to levitate objects, project waves of kinetic force, and survive physical attacks while augmenting his own.
- Kinetic Field
His original ability, Michael is capable of controlling the flow and ebb of kinetic force, allowing him to maintain momentum while ignoring inertia. He is able to control, magnify, and duplicate existing forces. With this ability, he can control people's movements by limiting the direction in which people can move, push people around by altering the direction of their momentum, or imprison people by trapping them inside a field that ignores movement in outward directions. His favorite use of this is to take an attack head on, only to redirect the kinetic force through his body and back towards the attacker. In order to do this, Michael is capable of tracking or at least be aware of the flow of kinetic energy around him. This means, even on a subconscious level, he can feel all movement around him.
The one major limit to his ability is his inability to manipulate fine matter on the micro scale. Things like individual gaseous particles, photons, lightning, lasers, etc. He can absorb kinetic force from air pressure. He can block things like lasers and push away gas with a kinetic blast, but the former requires an intense amount of concentration that leaves him vulnerable. Gas isn't that much of a problem as long as he maintains a directed kinetic field and even with lasers, he can deflect them if he has a few seconds to prepare.
While his abilities are powerful, they have a limited range. Within twenty meters he has absolute control, a limit of 1000 Newtons for twenty meters beyond that, 500 Newtons for ten more meters, and minimal power beyond fifty meters.- Perpetual Motion
While within his area of control, Michael is capable of maintaining the motion of an object. Utilizing outward pressures from the air, gravity, etc. he is able to add those new forces onto said object. This has the effect of applying hypothetically limiteless kinetic energy. That being said, Michael therefor has the ability to accelerate objects to any speed he desires as long as he has the necessary time and outside forces to do so.- Negative Zone
His most finicky ability, Michael's control of kinetic energy also allows him to negate said forces. Depending on the forces he negates, Michael can remove friction, atmospheric pressure, and even gravity. That being said, without gravity, Michael is capable of flight as he adjusts his own kinetic forces.- Martial Training
Michael has been a dedicated student in a variety of martial arts for most of his life.
- Physical Excellence
After he joined the Division, he was put through the extensive training required to be an agent. His physical fitness is on the level of an Olympic athlete and he is a black belt in at least ten different arts including Ninjutsu, Judo, and Mixed martial arts.- Kinetic Augmentation
His abilities allow him to augment the force of his attacks by a number of times. Statistics-wise, he can bench roughly five hundred pounds and has a 4.4 second 40 yard dash. With his powers he can negate the force objects exert on him and thereby lift theoretically things of any weight. Also using his skills in negating friction and limitless acceleration, he is able to skate, slide, and launch himself around at incredible speeds.- Minor Telepathy
Michael also has some limited talent in telepathy.
- Telepathic Resistance
As one of the leaders of the Division, Michael's position makes him a likely target for telepathic assaults. In responce to this threat, he underwent grueling training in order to resist such attacks. While he is not immune, he can hold out against moderate telepaths and ward off the more invasive techniques. This way, at the very least, he can let his allies know if he is under the influence of others.
Appearance:
Michael is six feet and one inch tall with wavy black hair that falls around his eyes. Said eyes are a bright yellow and often can be seen even in darkness. His skin is smooth and clean and is the color of a latte. His features are very striking and most would say handsome. With perfect symmetry, a light playful gaze under his fine brow, and a bemused smile he has the appearance of someone who is in perfect control of his surroundings. And rightly so. His body, as per Division regulations, is in perfect shape.
Despite his appreciation of rules and regulations, Michael is not a fan of being told what to wear. He prefers casual clothes: black shirt, blue jacket, dark pants, boxers, socks, and sneakers. He finds that this allows him to blend in with his surroundings better and approach his targets easily. Sometimes he'll wear a hat, but not often. He rarely deviates from his wardrobe. When combat ability is a must, Michael resigns himself to wearing black clothing included with pads, goggles, and a mask.
Personality:
Michael is a dedicated person. While the most important thing in his life is his wife and child, the rest of it revolves around his work. He truly believes in the work he's doing, that mutants who don't comply with the government are the greatest threat there is. This thought pushes him forward with unrelenting determination and committment for his job.
Michael is a married man. He has a wife who was his highschool sweetheart who stuck with him even despite his powers. He also has a newborn son he cares for more than anything else in his life. If push came to shove, he would give up everything else in order to protect them, even compromising his position and the Division.
As a person, Michael has learned that authority and confidence make the man. When with his men and women, he always knows what he is doing, or at the very least acts that way. In all his years on the job he has learned at the very least everyone is guilty of something and that 99.98% of all people shouldn't be trusted. In his command he is strict but fair, refering to the gut if the situation is not covered in the rules.
History:
Born to Robert and Alisa Rush, Michael was raised in New York City. He was an energetic and troublesome kid who loved to run around with his friends. They got into a lot of trouble, but nothing serious. His parents admired their son's outgoing nature and how easily he made friends. The only downside was that he was a little naive in terms of ideals and was often easily persuaded to do stupid things.
Around the age of eight, his ability began to manifest itself. At first he began to notice things moving when they weren't supposed to and after a few months he realized that it was him who was causing it. The realization, coupled with the exuberance, and stupidity of youth, led to his discovery. At the age of ten, Michael was competing in a baseball game. At his time to bat, Michael became aggrivated when he missed his first two swings. In a fit of anger, he hit the ball and launched the it into the stratosphere.
As Michael began highschool, he was carefully watched by everyone. His powers were magnifying at a frightening degree. He was barred from all athletic competitions and most competetive clubs. With those out of the way, and most social clubs unwilling to accept him, Michael resorted to studying. He proved himself to be incredibly intelligent and even won a few science competitions and math tournaments. The only person who would speak to him was a cute girl by the name of Teagan. She was lively and somewhat rebellious and didn't mind his abilities. After a few years they started going out, but only after Michael had proven himself trustworthy to her parents.
After graduating highschool, as valevictorian no less, he earned a full-ride scholarship to Harvard from the newly founded Division. With a promising career on the horizon, he dove into his studies and earned a degree in physics in just three years. Right after graduating he married his long-time girlfriend and spent a few weeks in the Bahamas for their honeymoon.
At twenty-one years of age, Michael joined the Division. Immediately his power propelled him into consideration for a leadership position, but for a few years he turned them down, wishing to prove himself to the other mutants before taking the reins. Plus he had never fully explored his ability and wished to master it. Three years later he finally accepted his role as leader, begrudgingly so, and began directing.
