"I swear! I just forgot them!"
POW! The young blond girl was punched in the face by the police officer. She fell to the ground from the hard punch. The girl, Elizabeth, had superhuman powers, of course, but she was by no means much less fragile than a normal 14 year old girl. Blood went flying from her nose. She was bleeding pretty badly now.
"Mutant scum!" He said before throwing another punch at her, though this one sent her to the ground. A crowd started to form around her as they watched the beating, though at this point the girl was close to unconscious. The officer stood in front of her and looked down.
"Just count yourself lucky I'm not taking you to prison." He said, but only moments later, the sound of a gunshot fired. Someone in the crowd had shot her, right in the stomach. At this point, some members of the spectators fled, as well as the officer, but others still weren't done, they gathered around her and continued kicking.
"Damn you mutant freak! You're an abomination!" one man shouted. They continued kicking her.

Guess day begins differently for different people, or, should I say, mutants. Up to that point it was a fairly average day for one of the more shady types of mutants, such as Uncas aka Le Fox, the alias that was used in an even shadier circles. A black and somewhat luxurious car was making its way down the street towards its destination, its dark windows hiding whoever was inside from prying eyes. It was his own wish to have himself shielded like that.
At day he rarely traveled by foot, preferring the car. And why not? Aside from being an important person in the brotherhood, he was also one of the more influential drug lords in the city. Yes, drug lords. He did not forsake that business of his after joining the Brotherhood, but expanded it. So he could afford having a car, a personal driver, and even a few bodyguards. Humans, yes, but like it was said, they'd do anything for money. And Le Fox had money. A lot of it. And as they were passing by something that looked like a big crowd of people, something attracted the lazy fox's attention...
- Stop the car for a second. What is going on there? - he asked and the car stopped softly, and he lowered the window to see and hear everything. And as he did, everything suddenly went clear, as his ears heard the yelling of "Die mutant!" and kicks and punches, as they were kicking something ... or someone, who was lying on the ground. The fox just watched, unmovable, and the henchmen that were in the car with him exchanged uneasy glares between each other.
- Uh-oh, boss ain't gonna like this...
- Quite correct. Gentlemen, I hope you brought your toys around this time... - le Fox said, without turning their head to face his two henchmen. This was a bad sign. Very bad. Especially now, when the visual became clearer, and more obvious that they were kicking ... a child. Who lied on the ground in a pool of her own blood. Smell of blood often triggered Uncas' primal instincts. If this was a human, he would have passed by without batting an eyelash, but this was one of his own they were talking about.
- But boss... Tis open street and broad daylight! The police... - the henchie suddenly stopped muttering, when Uncas finally turned around, a vicious and murderous scowl, bared teeth and glowing eyes more than enough to make a point across - he would not accept a "No" from his subordinate and let him get away with it alive. Not when such a subject mattered.
- The police, my good man, would be the least of your worries right now. - he said, and opened the door, as the vehicle drove closer. The whining of brakes managed to distract the crowd a bit from beating up the poor girl, and as they turned their heads, they saw that out of the black car three people wearing tuxedo came out, one of them was a mutant alright, but in their hands ... oh my god, was that a tommy gun? Before anyone could start figuring out what is going on, and...
*ratttattattattata!*
*BANG!*
*BANG!*
And the crowd went running in panic, trampling over each other, but 5 of them would not run anywhere ever again...

The pain was great, and it was only luck that Elizabeth had managed to avoid a fatal hit. Still, she was in so much pain that she literally was hoping that she would pass out. Unfortunately, that didn't seem the case. She was far from passing out. She lay, cowered in a ball with her eyes closed in the fetal position. She wanted them to stop beating her.. why were they doing it?
After some seconds however, she realized they had stopped. In all of the commotion and pain, she had neglected to even hear the gunfire. She finally opened her eyes, and that was when she saw it in front of her. Two dead bodies, right there, laying before her. How did they die? She didn't know, but the fighting had stopped. Quickly, she worked to push herself up. She was stumbling. Two steps though, and she collapsed to the ground once more.
"Ugh!" She collapsed over one of the dead bodies.

In less than a minute, it was all over. The vile mob routed, and some of them were dead. Not all were the ones who kicked the defenseless girl on the ground, some of the killed were merely watching. Which in le Fox's book was just as bad - it took severe wickedness to just watch the poor thing tortured in cold blood. They have deserved their bullet, and the mutant would not shed a tear of remorse for their deaths. A hitman, a drug dealer, a terrorist, and now a vigilante... How many other professions I'll get to try in my life? - he thought as he approached the girl who desperately tried to get up. Well, at least she was alive, though Uncas' face twitched in horror as he saw she had a hole in her stomach. From a bullet. The bastards shot her, and then wanted to maul her to death!
- And they have the nerve to call US monsters?! - he sounded wrathful as he approached the girl. Poor thing, it must have hurt like hell. He knew how it felt, to a degree, the memories of his "childhood" were always fresh in his mind, though it never came down to this. Over the decade, it seemed that the affairs with mutant toleration had only gone to worse...
-Boss! Hurry up! I can hear the coppers comin'! - one of the thugs, the big guy with the tommy gun, called. And indeed, he could hear the sirens whining nearby, closer by the minute. Le Fox had to make a decision quick. If the girl would not receive medical aid, she would die. If they leave her or bring her to hospital, those murderers in white coats would make sure of that - cases of mutants "accidentally" dying in hospitals were all too common. He did not waste a second more.
- Get to the car! Quick! - he ordered, and scooped the girl in his arms, running back to the car as well. Time was running out, and he could already see the police cars from afar. He wondered if they'll be able to get away. Rushing inside and slamming the door behind, he yelled at the driver in coarse language:
- DRIVE YOU FUCKIN' FUCK! - and with a whine of brakes again, the black car went off. They weren't out of this yet...

The pain was great, but it made her know she was alive. If she were dead, she wouldn't still be feeling it, right? She always heard that people said things went cold before someone dies. Their wounds would go numb, so as long as she was feeling the pain, it meant that she was in the clear. Elizabeth didn't want to die, not yet.
She was scooped up into the man's arms, and the next thing she knew she was in his car. She opened her eyes and looked up at him. His face was something almost horrendous to her. She had never seen someone like that before. A mutant, no doubt, but still. He was like her... only different.
"Who are you... are you a mutant?" the answer to her question was somewhat obvious, but she'd ask it nonetheless. No reason to assume until she had heard it for sure.

- There there... easy now... - le Fox stroke the head of the girl with his hand, trying to remain calm and reassuring as his car was desperately trying to escape several police ones that ran in pursuit. Ugh, he didn't have time for this, he needed to get the girl to the medic, and quickly. He was already drenched in her blood as she lied on his knees, and was afraid she would die from blood loss. - Yes, I am a mutant... Try not to worry, you're safe... - he added, the last part being a blatant lie considering the situation they were in.
- Do we have a medkit somewhere around here? - he yelled over the whining of tires and screeches of police sirens.
- Only a driver's medkit, boss!
- Well, what's in there?
- Bandages... painkillers...
- Good enough, gimme!
And the next moment he already was busy with bandages trying to stop said bleeding, if he could. He was not a medic, so his strategy came down to putting as many bandages over the wound as possible and injecting a painkiller. Hopefully in the vein. One of his mooks shook his head in disagreement and sighed out: - Was so much trouble worth saving some mutant girl? Uncas did not reply anything to that, because he had nothing to say. It obviously was not. And it was he who acted like a brain-dead comic book hero. If he were to get out of this mess, he'd never ever play hero again. He was not a hero, he was a drug lord and a former hitman, such people aren't heroes! He foresaw getting in so much trouble from his own boss for this...
- Riley, you think we'll be able to ditch them?
- Maybe, hold on tight boss! - and with that the sound of whining tires was heard again as the car on full speed crossed the intersection on red light, narrowly avoiding collision with a few more cars and a bus. That effectively made said intersection one large traffic jam behind them, which blocked the police cars' way, and the black car escaped their line of sight behind a turn.
- There, ditched them. I don't think they had time to set up any intercepting operation yet, they came too quickly and probably without much though. But we need to change a vehicle...

Staying conscious now was the most difficult thing for Elizabeth. She still wasn't going numb,, but she felt as though she was getting tired. However, going unconscious to her felt like an admission of defeat, and she wouldn't do that right now. However, as soon as she got injected with the pain killer, she was already beginning to feel a semblance of relief.
She really didn't have much to say at this point. The wound was still hurting her a lot. She needed some medical care, that much she knew, or else she could potentially die soon. She couldn't imagine herself dying, but she knew it was a possibility. She had to wonder how things had gotten this badly so quickly. She wasn't used to things like this happening. She was use to the protection and care at her home.
She coughed once, but still said nothing. She didn't know what to say. She couldn't see out the window. All Elizabeth knew was that they were driving fast, though of course she could hear the police cars.
"I don't want.. to die."

- Don't worry, you won't. -Uncas said reassuringly as he managed to stop the bleeding somewhat. The fact that the bullet by some miracle did not hit anything important helped that a lot, because if there was a hit in the liver, or stomach, or anything else really, she'd be done for. There was a lot of blood, but much less than it could have been. Plus, with the generous amount of bandages he used, it was ought to work sooner or later.
- Then get us a new one! Before the cops pick up our trace again! - he said, as their car made a shortcut through a rather narrow alleyway. They needed to get a new car, and fast. So that coppers would be looking for the fancy black car, and not some random other one - he was fairly sure they did not see faces. Dark glass could be really helpful sometimes.
And soon their search was completed - there was another car making its way out of adjacent alleyway - some dude must have parked it there. This was just perfect. It was a rather worn car of white color - complete opposite of what they had now. Nodding to each other, the four exited without much hesitation, guns in hands once more to be more convincing. Uncas held the girl in his hands, however, so he let the henchmen do the talking. They looked convincing enough even without guns though. The white car stopped as soon as the big guy with a tommy gun blocked the path.
- Out of the car! I said GTFO of the car! - he yelled, and as soon as the door opened, dragged the poor frightened everyman out and nailed him in the head with the but end of his weapon, effectively rendering him unconscious. When that was done, the four quickly occupied the vehicle, closing the doors behind, and left off, mixing with the traffic in a law-obiing order. The sirens were still yelling nearby, but as they went shallower and dimmer, they figured they might have lost them. This was close...
- Ugh, what a dump this car is! Compared to my Lexus... - the driver complained a bit as he readjusted the seat, while driving. - So, boss, where to now?
- My mansion, I have a doctor there. He'll take care of the bullet.
- You have a doctor there? - the other henchie asked curiously. The fox sighed. Of course he did. In case he needed to take care of bullet wounds for himself or associates, without bringing em to local hospitals, who would be suspicious of the bullets. Criminals had their own doctors.
- Yes. And hurry up. - he said, before turning over to the girl again. -Do not worry, you will be okay, I promise...

The promise he made didn't seem as though it was something he had control over. After all, he was acting just as frantically as what she was feeling right now. They were stealing cars and trying to get away from the police. Nonetheless, she preferred it this way if it was the path that allowed her to live. The cops hadn't exactly been very helpful to her as of yet. She didn't owe them anything.
Unable to keep her eyes open, due to how heavy they were becoming to her, she closed them. She still wasn't unconscious, but she simply felt so tired. At the very least, it was fortunate that she still had managed to survive.
"Thank you... sir."

- You're welcome... - the vulpine said, stroking the girls head with his hand, but those words fell on deaf ears - the girl was already asleep, or out cold. The abuse, wound, pain and medicine were the reason no doubt. It didn't matter. He felt the tiny heart under his palm stopping beating so frantically, rhythm getting to somewhat normal. This was good. Or he thought so at least, he was not a medic.
- Gee boss, you're a real hero.
- Shut up.
The car got to a clear line, and was quickly leaving the city. Sirens, chase, shooting... it was all behind now. All that mattered was that they were on the way to the mansion, there, medic, treatment, and ... probably a berating for being so reckless for once in a lifetime. An funny picture it was though - four big guys in tuxedos and a girl with a hole in the stomach on their hands...
- If we don you a flashy cape, boss...
- I SAID SHUT UP!
