Powers and Abilities:
- Power Upon reaching puberty, his skin turned a pure white, like milk, and became cold to the touch, and hard. As the skin hardened, however, he found that he had no trouble moving whatsoever. Tests were ran, and it was discovered that his new skin was now a sort of ivory, marble, and carbonate composition. This condition spread throughout his body, even beneath the skin, affecting his muscle and bone mass. Remarkably, his organs remain functional as normal. Now that he is grown, he is essentially a rock-man.
- Subskill one: Stone Skin- By the very nature of his power, Julius is significantly tougher than your average man. Fists and knives just bounce off of him, and handguns and most rifles would leave only minor dents and chips on his sculpted features. In short, weapons that the general public could buy or own are generally ineffective, however, anything more powerful than a standard handgun or hunting rifle is a genuine threat. Probably the easiest way to injure Monochrome would be a hand grenade or similar explosive device, and the easiest way to kill him dead would be a sniper rifle with armor-piecing rounds. If injured, Monochrome's body does not heal on it's own accord, he must bathe each night in a solution of flouride, calcium, lime sediment, various organic protiens, and other chemicals. These chemicals strengthens and cleans the existing rock, and triggers the healing process, restoring his body. It is a slow process, however; if he soaked in the solution an hour each night, it would take a week for him to repair a single dent on his body's surface.
- Subskill two: Marble Muscle- Not only is Julius a lot harder to hurt, he is also quite a bit stronger than your average man, though not to the extent of the "superhuman". To give you an idea of exactly how strong he is; he can lift a school bus, but he cannot lift a semi-truck.... well, maybe if the truck was empty... With his strength, he can punch through wood, and some extremely thin metals, like aluminum. Brick and any sturdy metal, however, are beyond him.
Appearance:Despite his skin ultimately being a combination of rock and the stuff teeth are made out of, Monochrome remains, for the most part, human looking. In fact, at first glance you may mistake him for a regular, albeit extremely pale, man. He still has hair, which remains unaffected by his rocky transformation, and his "skin" shines just the way a normal person's would. In fact, the biggest give away, just by looking, would have to be his eyes, which have become pale gray and glassy. His face and body are, quite literally, chiseled, making him quite attractive by normal standards. And his general good looks give him a fair bit of pompousness. He sometimes jokingly refers to himself as The Ivory Gentleman, as he wears elegant clothing. Black neatly polished shoes, black slacks, a black leather belt with a white-silver buckle, a black button-up silk shirt, with white buttons and white cuff links, white gloves, and a white-silver silk tie. His short hair is pitch black, and slicked back and parted neatly down the middle, and he carries a long black wooden cane, with a white rounded knob atop. It is because of this outfit that he was given the name Monochrome.
Personality:Monochrome is an extremely organized, neat, and by the books sort of person. He wants things to be documented and recorded. He wants things done the right way, not the fast or easy way. He often holds himself to a higher standard than others who don't share his views, and is somewhat pompous, looking down on those who don't support order as being uncivilized. While generally a light-spirited man, he is very focused, some would even say married to his work. He is a pleasant person, friendly enough, and always polite to those he respects. To those he does not respect, however, they may as well be the dregs of the universe. Dirt. He even goes out of his way to preach to the rebellious types how life would be easier for everyone, if they all just followed the rules set upon them.
History:Julius comes from a moderately wealthy family. His childhood was entirely unremarkable, aside from his second grade teacher having an unfair bias against him. He went through school relatively easily, meeting all requirements set for him, and never breaking any rules. He was seen as something of a teacher's pet by the other students, though that really wasn't the case.
When he reached puberty, sixth grade, his body began to change. And not in the normal deeper-voiced hairy sort of way. In fact, if anything, he lost a lot of body hair, as his skin slowly reformed into a material not unlike the surface of a tooth. Slick, smooth, and hard as rock. It was then that he discovered that he was a mutant.
And suddenly, his unremarkable life became a lot more interesting. He was immediately transferred into a special class at the school, not by his parents request, and not for his own protection. No, though he was too young to know for sure, he suspected they put him in the class in order to protect their own image. Other students and their parents never saw him. Indeed, there were only two other students in the class. Neither of them were mutants, themselves, but they had mutant relatives. This class was not much different from the rest of the school, except it had all of it's gym classes indoors, and the students had to leave the school via a side entrance, away from the other students.
This made Julius' social life a bit more difficult. Not that he was ever popular before, being the goody-two-shoes as he was. But now, without having any contact whatsoever with other students, he couldn't rightly make friendships. But, he was a highly focussed young man, he gave all of his attention to his school work, and was never bothered too deeply by his isolation. Though, he never was able to forget the feeling of being alone.
Upon graduating (his name was called at the ceremony, but he wasn't allowed to march with the rest of the class), he immediately got a job at a gorcery store. He had to wear some stage make up to avoid causing a scene at work, though his employers did know of his condition. Again, his focused mind came in handy, and he rose through the ranks quickly, spending most of his short career in a form of lower-end management. Though, that could easily have been the store owners trying to get Government pensions for hiring someone like Julius.
He was still young, working as a Cash and Services Manager at the grocery store, overseeing the customer service counters and the cashiers. Working in retail, there are some things that will annoy anyone and everyone. And the most common of those things is people who cheat "the system". He had spent his entirely life, focusing on a job, and then getting it done the right way. To him, it was a way of life; finding new and more efficient ways to perform a task within the guidelines given to you. And exploiting those guidelines, using loopholes, or outright breaking the rules... it was almost like a personal insult to him. In his job, the most common exploit of the rules were people who used government-paid food stamp cards to buy energy drinks, shrimp, ribs, snack foods, and even tobacco products. And, as a man working in retail, he saw it hundreds, even thousands of times a day. The mild annoyance grew into a deep seated hatred toward those who defy the guidelines set upon them, by the government, by their believes, or by nature.
When laws on registering mutations came into effect, it was the same way; people avoiding the government officials, refusing to register, and basically breaking the rules for no other reason than to disrupt order. What was more, this disruption of order was being blamed on the entire mutant population, not just the few rebels who didn't want to be tagged. This was a personal insult to Julius, being a mutant who lived for nothing but the rules. Julius became a member of Division in an attempt to make the world a more orderly and, in his eyes, better place to live in.
